Celebrating Women across the globe

To celebrate International Women’s Day this year we have invited Bette Lynch from 29twentynine agency for our March edition of our Drew Talks ( Here is where we tell you everything about it!).

Bette works with organisations to unearth their untold stories and, over the last 12 months, she has collaborated with ActionAid UK to develop their visual storytelling and to create and deliver a photographic campaign. The charity was keen to look at the visual representation of their work across the global south and how they could create a much stronger photographic identity, a more impactful and engaging message for their supporters.

With 30 years’ experience in editorial photography Bette was able to develop the Women by Women concept which celebrates inspirational women in front of and behind the lens.

On Wednesday 5th March 2020, Women By Women opened as a temporary exhibition at the Oxo Tower Gallery, which will be open to public until Sunday 8th March [details here].

So, this year, we want to offer our space to voices and stories that have inspired us: unprivileged realities that have so much to tell. Hoping to use our platforms as a way to spread a message of positive empowerment and cultural awareness.

Happy International Women’s Day, celebrating women every day.

MORENA PEREZ JOACHIN – Guatemala City, Guatemala

To be a woman photographer in Guatemala is still a challenge. You have to work a lot to show off your portfolio and have the same opportunities as a male photographer, like travelling alone and safely.

PAMELA TULIZO – Goma, The Democratic Republic of Congo

I love my work, even though most of the time I am in danger… But because I am so passionate about photography, I always tell myself that it’s worth it.

TAHMINA SALEEM – Kabul, Afganistan

If men see you with a camera, they are shocked; they think ‘how can a woman be doing photography?’ It’s difficult but we do it for ourselves and we do not give up.
